Raya goodies for the needy
EIGHTY senior citizens, single mothers and physically challenged children from Persatuan Cahaya Kasih received Hari Raya Aidilfitri goodie bags and zakat (tithe) payments.
This was carried out under the Program Bantuan dan Berbuka Puasa Jalinan Kasih aid programme held in Taman Harmony, Air Itam, Penang,
The programme was jointly organised by the Jalan Masjid Negri Village Security and Development Committee and Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai as a gesture of goodwill during the holy month.
“It is a time to set aside ideologies and differences, and take a moderate stance in everything we do as a mark of respect during this important month of Ramadan,” said Wong at the event.
He said the less fortunate and poor should not be left out during the fasting month, and a little kindness and empathy would go a long way to bring people together for a meaningful Hari Raya celebration.
About 100 people attended the event. Also present was Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
